The following privacy statement will be supplemented during the application process by a specific statement from the Max Planck School for which you are applying.
Purpose and legal basis of the processing
On the application site of the Max Planck Schools, all fields marked with * are mandatory. The gathered personal information at the site will be used to efficiently support the application and recruitment process. The legal basis for data processing is Art. 6, para. 1, letter b) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and § 26, paragraph 1 of the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG).
All fields which are not marked are optional. You can provide this information on a voluntary basis. The legal basis is your consent based on Article 6, paragraph 1, letter a of the GDPR. Consent is also the basis for the additional purpose of the processing of your data for statistical purposes by the Max Planck School you apply for and those academic institutions, who are involved in the selection and evaluation process.

General Information about your nationality, current place of residence, age, gender, highest degree with final grade, the university at which you completed this degree, GRE score (or score of similar tests) and how you got to know the Max Planck Schools will furthermore be processed for statistical reasons / evaluation purposes. These purposes also include our legitimate interest in data processing pursuant to Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f DSGVO which is the legal basis therefore.
Data recipients and categories of data recipients
Processing of your personal details is carried out by way of order processing on the GWDG GmbH. The Max-Planck-Gesellschaft as the responsible body only has access to your data insofar as this is necessary for the application and recruitment process in line with the internal allocation of responsibilities. Your data will be reviewed by the Max Planck Society and by the Max Planck School you apply for and those academic institutions in Germany, the Netherlands and the UK, who are involved in the selection and evaluation process of the respective Max Planck School.
Duration of storage
In case of a successful application, we transfer your data into our management system.
In the event of rejection, your data will be deleted at the end of the application procedure.
The above mentioned Information processed for statistical reasons /evaluation purposes will be stored for a period of 5 years. These purposes also include our legitimate interest in data processing pursuant to Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f DSGVO which is the legal basis therefore.

Rights of the data subject
In principle, you have the right to information in relation to the data concerning you, the right to have the data corrected should it be incorrect and the right to request deletion of the data if it is being stored unlawfully, as well as the right to have the processing restricted, the right of data portability and the right to object to processing. You can withdraw consent which you have issued at any time. You also have the right to submit an objection to a supervisory authority, for example to the authority competent for the MPG.
